Description: Stu is a medium-sized, yellow Labrador Retriever/Shiba Inu mix with white markings that survived both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. When he was rescued he was not wearing a collar or tags. Stu is a playful dog. His favorite things to do are play with toys, swim and play in the water, and dig. Yet, despite his playful disposition, he displays dominant behavior and is food aggressive.
Last seen/Found location: Stu was found running stray around Flanders on October 16, 2005. He was taken to the Winn Dixie rescue site in the Ninth Ward. (His Winn Dixie number is #HK1711). On October 19, 2005, Stu was brought to the Humane Society of Louisiana (HSL) evacuation site in Tylertown. Stu is currently at the Humane Society of Louisiana with an ID of Katrina 14. Stu was not neutered when he was found and tested negative for heartworm.

Description: Little Tommy is a male tabby and white mix. He started out his life in New Orleans shortly before Hurricane Katrina hit. He is about two years old now and very affectionate. Tommy does not like being held but he does enjoy being groomed and stroked and has always fit in with any of the other rescued cats that he has been housed with. Tommy has always enjoyed excellent health and is quite the talker. Little Tommy came from the animal shelter in Tangipahoa Parish (near Hammond, LA) on either 9/15 or 9/19. Gretchen is shy around other cats but loves to love on humans. Her foster people are amazed at how well she has adjusted considering all that she has been through. Poor Gretchen is still sneaking out from under the bed to eat and use the box. She does not like the other animals. Gretchen went from the animal shelter in Tangipahoa Parish (near Hammond, LA) on either 9/15 or 9/19 to Houston to Austin. She currently resides at the Cedar Forest Cat Ranch, Inc. in Austin, TX.

Description: Marie is a female Calico mix Katrina victim who is at least 15 years old with a cataract on one eye. Picture #3 is the day she arrived at The Cat Ranch, pictures #1 & #2 are more recent. All of her wounds have healed beautifully from her Katrina ordeal. Marie gets special food & treats at least 5 times daily (she is up to 7-1/2 pounds, from 5-3/4 pounds when she arrived) and she rules the roost with other cats. Unfortunately, Marie is starting to have little strokes. We would love to find Marie's family, and they are welcome to take her home with them. If it is not possible for her to go home with her original family, please help us let her family know that she is being well cared for and that her personality is being appreciated. (p.s. she goes crazy when pork of any kind is being cooked - she really is from New Orleans). Marie came from the animal shelter in Tangipahoa Parish (near Hammond, LA) on either 9/15 or 9/19. She was loved and cared for very much by someone who might not have made it through the storm; She attacks the ground (causing injury to her paws and mouth) if left alone outside. (Perhaps she saw something horrible down there.) This is the only problem she has. She does not get along well with other dogs.

Found: He was trapped at the feeding station on the 5500 block of Woodlawn Place in Lakeview, LA - a suburb of New Orleans (Orleans Parish). The person who trapped him has seen him there for months, but until recently, was never able to get close enough to take his photo or trap him.

Description: This beautiful guy has markings like a Rottweiler, and is chocolate brown and an almost gold color. He looks like he could also be a Shar Pei mix. He has lighter tan dots over his eyes and a curled tail. When standing on all 4's, he is about 2 1/2 feet from floor to shoulders. He is very sweet with people but is not very fond of other dogs or children. He was not wearing a collar or tags. More photos of this handsome boy are available. His Petfinder record incorrectly states that he was sent to California. He was sent directly to Pittsburgh, PA from New Orleans, LA.
Found: A police officer found him sleeping on a lady's porch (it was not her dog) on Camelot Street, New Orleans (Orleans Parish) and brought him to Winn Dixie on October 21, 2005. His number there was HK1021-15. He was then transported to Pittsburgh, PA later in October, 2005.

There is a scar on his belly, possibly from a hernia operation. He gets along well with cats and other dogs. Buddy does not like to be confined indoors unless someone is home with him. While at his foster mom's house, he actually ate a door knob trying to get out when he was left alone. It is believed that Buddy may possibly have been locked indoors before the storm and hurt himself getting out because his back legs were injured from what looked to be broken glass.
